You've Had a Birthday Shout Hooray!

So, as usual, it's time for a little back-blogging. Cora turned one back in December. (You know, before Christmas, and New Years, and Valentine's, and Ally's gymnastics debut, and Ally's birthday . . .) Since she couldn't tell us what she wanted to do for her big celebration, we let Ally translate Cora's babbling for us. That's how we ended up playing at Chuck E Cheese for the evening. Two of our little friends and their mom met us there to join in the fun. Cora enjoyed riding in the cars, crawling from toy to toy, and watching the other girls as they spent their tokens. She also made a lot of phone calls while Ally enjoyed skeeball and other games with Daddy.

As they giggled and played, our girls worked up a voracious appetite. I'm not a fan of paying for cardboard pizza (Sorry, Chuck E), so we asked Ally to help Cora choose a good restaurant for her birthday dinner. Her pick? Indian. (Who takes their one-year-old to an Indian restaurant for their birthday?) So, we went down the street to the Indian restaurant and had ourselves a really fine tasting meal that-- ironically-- looked a lot like pureed baby food.

Here's a pic of Ally drinking our shared Mango Lassi. The glass was about as big as Ally's head, but Cora still managed to down at least half of it. Good thing she had reached the legal drinking age for raw honey. (Now that I think about it, we celebrated her birthday one day early, but don't let the MD know. Shhh!)

I made Cora a Pooh Bear cake, and we let her have first dibs at destroying it. She started out by daintily caressing his cheek, but she eventually dug her way into the frosting and the chocolate on his nose. I'd say the cake was a success, although we didn't get around to eating much of it. And Cora enjoyed ripping into her presents, too. So, happy belated-blog birthday wishes, Cora! (Like she's really aware of it anyway.)
We love you!

Move Over, Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin

Wikipedia defines gymnastics as "an activity involving performance of exercises requiring physical strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, balance, and grace." Yeah, maybe we'll eventually get there.

This has been Ally's favorite part of class. Not sure what they're supposed to learn from this exercise, but Ally learned that maybe-- just maybe-- she might try riding a roller coaster in the future. I sure wish I was still small enough to take a ride in that car.

Cora's Bananas

This was Cora's lunch today. She ate one banana, then asked for another one. She was so cute I decided to video it. Not wanting hoard the cuteness, Cora and I came downstairs to post it on the blog before it gets lost among all the other stuff I haven't shared and becomes obsolete. (I think I need to get back to blogging.)

Cora finished eating the second banana while watching the camera replay of the "baby" devouring the "nana". She's such a little monkey.

A Day Late and A Pound Short

We hope your yesterday was full of Irish happiness and greenery. We didn't find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, but at least we didn't lose our little leprechauns. Enjoy the pics.

My Tiny Counter

I'll admit this video is probably not worth your time unless you're a grandparent, an avid fan of all things Ally, or just plain bored. I've posted this mainly because Ally asked me to, but also to preserve another piece of her self-taught childhood. She figured out the whole pattern to counting on her own, so she just keeps going and going and going. . . I can't decide which part I like better: Her "concentrating" eyebrows in the first few frames of the video or her "searching" eyes when she gets into the higher numbers.

The Apple of My Eye

As Ally was foraging for food in the fridge, Cora shimmied inside too and decided to help herself to something scrumptious. Usually she'll grab a yogurt or a drink, but she was a little more adventurous today. She grabbed an apple and went to town on it. Since her teeth aren't coming in very fast, I wasn't sure how successful she'd be at devouring her chosen snack. What Cora lacks in dentition she makes up in brute jaw strength.

She ate half the apple--skin and all--before moving on to animal crackers and cheese. This is why I get concerned every time she tries to take a bite out of my toes (or shoulder, or cheek, or arm. . .) Eventually I'll need to chart the order in which her teeth have appeared, 'cause it's been very random. Today I looked in her mouth and found her 1-year molar popping through on the upper right.
